NHS Launches Virtual Career Events with Virtual Days to Reach Future Healthcare Talent
As one of the world’s largest employers, NHS – the UK’s National Health Service, faces growing pressure to expand and diversify its workforce, it continues to innovate for a new era. In a groundbreaking move, the NHS is launching a series of virtual career events that combine the drive for zero-emissions, radical accessibility, and cutting-edge AI and immersive technologies.
In partnership with Virtual Days, the NHS is pioneering a recruitment experience that eliminates travel, breaks down barriers to entry, and uses next-gen virtual environments to connect with career and job seekers in powerful new ways. This initiative reflects the NHS’s long-term vision: to modernise workforce engagement through inclusive, environmentally responsible solutions.
“These events are a chance for us to show that Health and Care is more than hospitals and doctors — it’s a diverse, purpose-driven workplace offering over 350 meaningful careers. With this new solution we can meet people where they are and help them take the first step toward a rewarding future in healthcare”, said Stacey L. Forde, Senior Workforce Transformation Lead, NHS England (South West).
Explore NHS Jobs Online Through Immersive Virtual Career Events
The first virtual events, focused on NHS London and NHS South West, will launch in May 2025. Participants will be able to explore NHS career opportunities from home using immersive digital platforms powered by AI matchmaking. Whether interested in nursing, administration, mental health, or other vital fields, job seekers can chat directly with recruiters, attend live presentations, network, learn about roles and experience the NHS in an engaging, barrier-free environment.
“By integrating AI and immersive technology, these events don’t just replicate physical career fairs—they add new dimensions and efficiencies at a fraction of the cost,” said Lina Högemark, Co-founder of Virtual Days. “We’re reducing carbon footprints, opening doors for underrepresented groups, and creating new ways to inspire people toward careers that matter.”
Inclusive and Sustainable Recruitment That Breaks Down Barriers
This approach is a timely response to challenges faced across the healthcare sector. By removing the need for travel, the NHS is enabling wider participation, especially from rural communities, carers, those with disabilities, and people exploring mid-life career shifts.
A Scalable Model for Future-Focused NHS Recruitment
The long-term ambition is to scale this model nationally, creating a blueprint for how large institutions can use technology for climate-conscious, inclusive recruitment. From AI-guided job discovery to immersive career exploration, the NHS is setting a bold precedent for what recruitment can and should look like in the 21st century.
“We believe sustainability and innovation go hand in hand and Virtual recruitment drives more human connection,” added Mattias Säker, CEO at Virtual Days.
